Relevant Work experience

My background is in commercial management – I have worked within the maritime and resources industries for the past eight years or so, mainly working on trying to get new commercial developments off of the ground (e.g. marina, new infrastructure developments etc.), as well as commercial optimisation strategies (e.g. reducing infrastructure ownership costs).

This is a far cry from start ups perhaps, but I have a fair amount of experience in things like decision analysis, management accounting, feasibility analysis, financial modelling, strategic planning, negotiating commercial agreements etc., which might be of help to some startups.

What is Sean passionate about

I’m passionately interested in entrepreneurialism, but I don’t have a great deal of experience outside of the corporate world.  Hence I saw volunteering as an opportunity to help out people working on cool/interesting projects, while gaining more exposure and experience to entrepreneurial pursuits myself.

  • I have previously been involved in business plan preparation as well (although I wouldn’t describe myself as anything of an expert).

Interesting Fact about Sean

While I work full time, I’ve been involved in a number of side projects over the past six or seven years, including a web startup (www.eightspots.com), cattle trading and other eclectic activities.  I’ve also been involved in conducting due diligence with a couple of friends when we’ve looked at buying stakes in a fairly random mix of startups, including a cafe in London, Sunshine Coast property and a sock manufacturing company. :-) .
